Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School Earns Prestigious Purple Star Designation for Class of 2025
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has officially renewed Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School’s status as a Purple Star School, recognizing its ongoing commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
The Purple Star designation, for the Class of 2025, is awarded to schools that meet rigorous criteria set by Ohio’s Purple Star Advisory Board. These standards focus on ensuring that military-connected youth receive the support they need—academically, socially, and emotionally—especially during times of school transition and deployment.
We are proud to once again receive this meaningful recognition. Our staff is deeply committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for military families, and this designation is a testament to that ongoing dedication.
Ohio’s military-connected students often face unique challenges, including frequent moves and periods of parental deployment. The Purple Star School Award acknowledges schools that go above and beyond to provide stability, resources, and understanding during these times.
Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School will retain its Purple Star status for the next three years and will be eligible to reapply for the Class of 2028 in the fall of 2027.

Happy Spring Break! ☀️ What an amazing 3rd quarter! We teamed up with OHP for some incredible learning adventures! Our 4th graders designed awesome candy machines AND got to interact with real fur pelts!🐾🍬 Our kindergarteners explored the wild world of animals and animal-related careers! We also welcomed the wonderful author Margaret Peterson Haddix, who inspired us with her writing journey! 📚 Plus, Champaign County Master Gardeners helped us get ready for our upcoming butterfly project! 🦋

One of the many joys of our small district is the wonderful sense of community! Also this week, our amazing third graders took on the role of guest readers for our kindergarteners during Read Across America Week. 📚❤️ It was heartwarming to see the older students share their love of reading with the younger ones. From silly voices to enthusiastic page turns, it was a beautiful example of peer learning and friendship. We're so proud of our students for embracing the spirit of Read Across America! What a special moment for our school family.
This week was a whirlwind of Seussical fun, and we were so fortunate to have some wonderful guest readers share their love of books with our students! We read, we laughed, and we celebrated the magic of reading. AND we even bravely tried GREEN EGGS AND HAM! 🍳💚 It was a true community effort, and we're so grateful. Learning comes to life in 4th grade! Our students dove deep into the world of landforms, researching and then creating their own. We saw everything from canyons crafted from pebbles to islands built with…well, let's just say the creativity was flowing! Yesterday we celebrated the 100th day of school in style! 🎉 From dressing up like construction workers to "build 100" to designing fruit loop necklaces with 100 loops. We counted to 100 in every way imaginable and we had a blast celebrating this milestone. We built with 100 cups, made 100th-day snacks, and even sorted through 100 different words. A huge thank you to our amazing teachers and students for making it such a fun and memorable day. Check out some of the highlights from our 100th-day festivities!
We had a BLAST at Kiddie Cheer Camp last week! 🎉 A HUGE thank you to all the amazing kiddos who brought their energy and smiles, and to their incredible families for their support! We loved seeing all the future cheer stars learning new skills, making friends, and showing off their spirit. We can't wait to see you all again soon! 📣
